Message You of course were supposed to set Cylinder #1 at TDC as well as line up all the timing marks on the intake and exhaust cam gears with the marks on the rear timing covers. You should have followed the many steps of instructions found in the FSM to properly set your timing belt.

If you just pulled that pulley off, and then plunked it back down and thought everything was going to be OK - and then actually tried to crank the car - well, yeah, you quite probably have bent valves now. You would have had to take extreme care - and I'm not even sure you can do it - to remove that pulley while keeping the belt tension somehow proper and then to re-install it - would have been quite a feat! I'm sure someone somewhere probably has done this successfully too. Which is scary, but they probably knew exactly what they were trying to do and why. From your post, I don't get that sensation of uber creative inventiveness...if that's even a word.

So...

Inspect the timing belt. Verify that it is set properly or if it is not set properly - set the timing belt properly, see FSM. Once you've got it set properly, do a compression test. See FAQ if you need help. If you have no or low compression, well, you bent your valves. Which would be the expected result of cranking a car when the timing belt was not set properly. Quite often when the tension from the belt is removed, one or more of the cam gears is in a position where it will want to snap over to be off proper timing. Who knows what happened when you removed the tension from the belt. But definitely you could have just destroyed the valves...
